Pricing a work of art, especially in advance, is not an easy task. Below, I have given some guidance on prices and the time required for a portrait commission, according to the size and medium. Please bear in mind that each process of commissioning a portrait will be different from any other.

Portfolio of Life Sketches:
One session usually takes around 2 hours. I use pencil, charcoal or ink. Normally there will be 10-15 sketches made on A4-size paper. Price per session £200.
Oil or acrylic sketch:
This commission is executed from life in two sittings. The size of the painting is approximately 30×25 cm (12″x10″) Prices start from £450
Small portrait in oils or acrylic
: If painting from life, this commission will take 8-10 sittings. The size of the portrait is approximately 50x40cm or 20″x16″. It can be painted entirely from life or with the help of photographs. Prices start from £1600
Large portrait in oils or acrylic
: The size starting from 70×60 cm (28″x24″) allows greater freedom of composition. It can be done from life or using photographs. Price for this type of commission is to be discussed.
Group portrait
: The details of a group portrait are to be discussed.
The payment is made in two instalments: 1/3 of the price once we agree on commission details, and the rest on completion of the portrait.
